Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with his Mexican counterpart Enrique Nieto in Mexico City.
The two sides have agreed to increase the bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Xi Jinping, who is in Mexico for a 3-day state visit, is also expected to meet with Mexican parliamentary leaders.
The two sides are also expected to sign a series of deals covering economics and education.
Following his time in Mexico, Xi Jinping is due to fly to the U.S. state of California to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama.
Chinese vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli has confirmed preparations are underway for this country's third economic census.
The census is designed to collect basic information on the industrial and service sectors.
It's also designed to try to document the broader changes of the economy.
Zhang Gaoli concedes the economy is facing complex challenges, and says it will be difficult to shift its development mode and restructure industries.
The census - conducted every 5-years - will be launched on December 31st.
